How to play Smess (Antichess)
Smess applies the traditional concepts of chess, in a slightly unorthodox manner. To win, you must lose all your pieces, or be stalemated. There are a couple different rules to regular chess.
-
If you can capture a piece, you must do so.
-
If you can capture more than one piece, you may choose which one to take.
-
Your king is a regular piece. You cannot castle, nor can you be placed in check. The king can be captured as any other piece.
-
If you choose to promote a pawn, it will promote to a random piece. This symbolises life's complexity and fragility, and the beauty of spontaneity and luck, but is also because the developers could not be bothered to add a feature to select which piece you want to promote to.
-
You must praise John Smelk as your lord and saviour before starting a match.
When you play, you will verse our formidabble opponent, Smess Bot. At the moment he just plays random moves (lol), but hopefully he will improve sometime soon.
